The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced the temporary closure of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort from August 22, 2026, to allow for comprehensive renovation and strategic repositioning of the facility.
The government said the move is part of efforts to modernise the state’s hospitality assets, improve service delivery and strengthen their long-term commercial performance.
As part of the transition, management of Ibom Hospitality Limited will be handed over to ALEPH Hospitality, an internationally recognised hospitality management company, effective August 22.
According to the government, the new management structure is expected to introduce global hospitality standards, professional expertise, improved operational efficiency and enhanced guest experience.
The decision comes after more than 18 years of continuous operation without a major transformation of the hotel.
The government also assured staff that their welfare remains a priority throughout the transition. It said no existing employee would be laid off solely because of the transition, although workers who voluntarily decline the new arrangement or do not meet the skills required by the new management may be affected.
The Human Resources team and ALEPH Hospitality will engage employees on available roles, deployment, training, onboarding and other arrangements ahead of the reopening.
Meanwhile, the golf course will remain open to players and visitors during the renovation, with the government stating that it has been maintained and remains in good condition.
The government said employees who remain during the temporary closure will assist with rehabilitation works, security and maintenance of the facility.
It added that the transition is aimed at creating new opportunities within the state’s hospitality sector, including possible placements at the ARISE Palm Resort when it becomes operational.
The Commissioners for Information and Culture and Tourism, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah and Anieti N. Udofia, said the government remains committed to developing a world-class hospitality industry capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, promoting tourism and strengthening Akwa Ibom’s position as a leading tourism and business destination.
