Ambode’s probe: ‘Stop chasing shadows,’ NCP tells Sanwo-Olu; Charges him on delivering campaign promises

Lagos, Oct 25, 2019

The National Conscience Party (NCP), Lagos State, on Friday advised the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to concentrate efforts on fulfilling his campaign promises, rather than the probe of his predecessor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode.

An NCP statement signed by Mr Fatai Ibuowo, Chairman, in Lagos, described the probe of Ambode as “witch-hunting.”

The statement said the former governor was being probed over the 820 buses procured during his administration.

“During his administration, the rubber stamped Lagos state lawmakers nodded to the initiative by approving the budget for the buses procured by Ambode for the improvement of transportation system in the state.

“The members commended him for the laudable initiative.

“As opposition party devoid of politics of bitterness and also to strengthen the democracy our forefathers suffered for, we hereby call on the stooges of Lagos State Godfather to immediately halt the probe on the person of Ambode.

” We (NCP) see this probe as ill-timed and witch-hunting in order to further frustrate him (Ambode),” the statement said.

The NCP berated the state Assembly for not following due diligence in exercising their over-sight functions.

“We do not see any difference between Ambode and the 40 House of Assembly Members of Lagos State, during the increase in Land use charge, the same house of Assembly members approved the Land use Charge increase without consulting their constituents.

“This same House of Assembly Members blocked our peaceful protest against privatization of water in Lagos though it was latter opened by the crowd.

” We expected them to have probed him before his tenure expired since one of the functions of the Assembly members is to supervise executive projects, why were they not supervising all his projects?

“Almost all drainages Ambode constructed are not in good condition, what are Sanwolu and the members of Assembly doing? Are they not supposed to probe the contractors?,” the statement said.

The NCP noted that, though, Ambode’s probe is an APC internal issue, the rift generated was affecting the innocent masses who entrusted the governor their mandate to bring positive change to the state. But rather, he keeps chasing the shadow of his predecessor, the statement said.

The NCP urged the Sanwo-Olu to roll-up his sleeves and get to the business of governance as many issues bothering the state needed prompt attention.
