Anyamelum (Anambra), Sept. 25, 2021

Mr Valentine Ozigbo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic  Party (PDP) in Anambra, has described the retarded development and lack of infrastructure in Anyamelum Local Government Area of the state as heartrending and unacceptable.

Ozigbo said this during his campaign tour of Anaku on Saturday, ahead of the Nov. 6 governorship election.

He said he was forced to tears on his way to the area because of the lack of an access road in spite its critical importance as the food basket of Anambra.

He said public infrastructure had collapsed across the state that no part of it was marginalised.

“The situation in Anyamelum is heartrending, marginalisation is not just for our people here, every part of Anambra is marginalised, public infrastructure has collapsed, no roads, no security, and community strife everywhere.

“Omambala area is critical to us being the food basket of the state. We shall address these deficits and give you access to the market for your produce, that will be a major component of our government when we come on board.

“I have come to tell you that there is hope, there is a better future awaiting us. All we need now is a leader that is people oriented, compassionate with capacity to work. You have shown me love in the past, do it again and we shall reciprocate,” he said.

Ozigbo urged the people of the area to continually pray for his mandate, “be ambassadors of PDP, cast your votes and protect your  votes on election day”.

Also speaking, Chief Gabriel Onyenweife, a former lawmaker who represented the constituency, said the area had been cut off from Anambra civilisation as they lacked hospital, electricity, water and access road.

Onyenweife said though the speaker of State House of Assembly is from Anyamelum, the area had not had any developmental project in the last seven years of the present All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led government.

“Since the beginning of this democracy in 1999, PDP is the government that Anyamelum people have benefitted from, all the projects here were done by PDP, APGA has not done anything for us.

“The first road flagged up here is Omo-Umumbo road and eight years after the flag off, it has not been done more than two kilometres, it is now abandoned,” he said.

On his part, Mr Oseloka Obaze, candidate of PDP in 2017 governorship election in Anambra, said himself and his deputy were solidly behind the PDP candidate and urged the people to extend the support they enjoyed to Ozigbo.

Obaze who commended the people of Anyamelum for always supporting the party, said they had come to reiterated their promises of 2017 which were not delivered because of how the poll turned out.

Ozigbo and his running mate, Mrs Azuka Enemo, were received by the leadership of the PDP in the local government.
