APC not trying to circumvent Edo people’s will through the court…Scribe

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo State
Benin, Dec. 28, 2020

The All Progress Congress (APC) in Edo has said the party was not trying to circumvent the will of the Edo people in the 2020 governorship election through the courts.
This was contained in a statement on Monday, by Mr. Chris Azebamwan, State Publicity Secretary of the party.
Azebamwan was reacting to a statement credited to the Edo Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, that there was a conspiracy to use the courts to circumvent the political will of Edo people in the Sept. 19 governorship election where the PDP candidate and his running mate won as was done according to him, in Imo.
He noted that these were weighty issues that go to the very core of the integrity of the nation’s judicial institutions, calculated to pit the judiciary against the legal reliefs sought by the APC.
He advised the PDP to address their mind to shoring up their defence on the substance of the matter in court, which centers on forgery and perjury, rather than the “puerile and infantile” attempt at diverting attention from the substance.
According to him, the PDP conveniently lost sight of the fact that the issue in contention borders on forgery and perjury.
“APC did not go to the Federal High Court to challenge the outcome of the September 2020 election.
“The Nigerian public is too informed and discerning to be hoodwinked with fake allegations and sensationalism. We totally agree with the PDP that the Nigerian judiciary ranks amongst the best and most diligent in the world and will not be swayed or distracted by any antics”.
