Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has described her collaboration with former One Direction member Zayn Malik on her new single, ‘Heaven Baby’, as a dream come true.
The song, which features on her latest album, ‘Starrgirl’, fulfilled a long-held ambition Ayra Starr said she had as a schoolgirl and One Direction fan.
The singer recalled spending part of her school days writing the group’s lyrics in her notebooks while dreaming of working with its members.
“I spent some of my school days writing their lyrics in my notebooks. Your dreams might seem so far away, but you just have to work towards them,” she said.
“Having a song with someone like Zayn Malik was something I dreamt about, and it felt so far away.”
Ayra Starr said the experience became even more memorable when she met Malik in person during the filming of the music video for ‘Heaven Baby’.
She described the encounter as both shocking and unforgettable, given her admiration for the singer during her school years.
The ‘Rush’ crooner also encouraged young people with ambitions to remain focused and continue working towards their goals, regardless of how distant they may initially appear.
