Bauchi State Government has embarked on creating the institutional, regulatory and legislative framework in the water sector in order to make potable water available and beneficial for domestic and other purposes to the teeming rural and urban dwellers.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar who stated this at the commissioning of Wikki Spring Water Company in Mainama’aji, Alkaleri local government area, said provision of clean water tops priority list of his administration which goes in line with the targets of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals’ Programmes for implementation across the country.
The Governor restated the determination of his present administration in the State to create job opportunities and commercial activities by supporting “small, medium and large scale industries through the creation of an enabling environment for them to operate”.
While lamenting the poor and moribund state of public and privately-owned industries in the State, the Governor revealed that government has engaged the services of experts to carry a study and “advise it on the state of idle industries all over the State with a view to resuscitating the viable ones and the appropriate decision to be taken on the non-viable ones”.
Abubakar then commended the proprietors of the company for establishing it in Bauchi State, saying the commissioning of the company marks “the return of activities at the famous Wikki Spring and floating of the company is a testimony of the patriotism of the chairman and board of directors in ensuring that the company is fully indigenous” which will increase further commercial and economic activities in the area and create wider employment opportunities to the local people and the State.
He applauded the zeal and foresight of the company especially for “keying into the State government’s programme of encouraging private participation in boosting the economy of the State” and called on other local entrepreneurs to emulate them by establishing other similar companies that will help in the growth and economic development of the State.
The Governor then thanked them for creating the enabling environment for commercial businesses in the state.
In his response, the chief executive officer of the company said the company came about as a result of the conviction some like-minded people had to came together to contribute towards actualizing the restoration agenda of the Governor and harnessing some of the abundant natural resources in the State.
According to him ,the company which seeks to create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth of Bauchi State and eradicate youth banditry and reduce the burden on the State has already created 50 direct employment, with the expectation of generating over 2, 000 indirect in the short run.
Wikki Spring water currently has the capacity to produce 5, 000 bottles of water per hour, which translates to forty thousand bottles per 8 working hours per day 80, 000 sachets water same per production hours.
