In order to curtail the spread of wild polio virus in the state, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency has completed arrangements to immunize 1.2 million children in the next round of immunization plus days, IPDs, for 2019 .
The State Executive Chairman of the Agency, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this in a press briefing in his office, saying that the immunization is designed to reach every eligible child in the state .
He said that the IPDs will start from the 20 local governments in the state and that it is no longer house to house but in fixed posts.
According to him , ” if Nigeria’s immunization efforts was maintained, there will be no polio virus in Nigeria and in Bauchi. For 6 years there has not been any reported case of the virus in the state”.
Regarding the spread of measles and meningitis in the state, he said arrangements have been completed to vaccinate 1.2 million children aged 9 to 59 months against measles and 1.8 million aged 1 to 7 years against meningitis across the state.
Dr Mohammed then appealed to parents in the state to allow their children to be vaccinated and also called on the people of the state not to allow their children to die of any of these preventable diseases.
He solicited the support and cooperation of traditional and religious leaders, as well as other stakeholders for the conduct of the campaign.
