Bawa is hale and hearty – EFCC; He scarcely sleeps – official

Abdulrasheed Bawa, EFCC Chairman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said that their Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, is hale and hearty.

The Commission, in a statement by Wilson Uwujaren, its Head, Media & Publicity, said that the “clarification became necessary following an incident today September 16, 2021 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he was giving a goodwill message to the National Identity Day celebration, felt unwell and had to return to his seat.”

Uwujaren said further that Bawa “has since received medical attention and is due back at his desk.”

A senior officer of the Commission who would not want to be quoted said that the incident could have been as a result of exhaustion, stressing that the anti-graft Czar works round the clock and scarcely gets to sleep.

The official, who said that Bawa, through his hard work has, since assuming office, given the Commission a sense of direction, however, stressed that the youthful Chairman must always find time to rest, noting that the herculean task he is saddled with cannot be completed over night.

“He is fighting a hydra-headed monster and cannot afford to allow himself to be overwhelmed by the extent of the monstrosity that confronts him,” the official noted, insisting that Bawa works like someone racing against time, someone with a mission he wants to complete in record time.

The official pointed out further that to his credit, the incredible work pace of the Chairman has put virtually every staff on their toes, especially his close aides, but noted that many of these otherwise zealous staff of the Commission also get very few hours of sleep every day, just to keep up with the pace of their boss, counseling that while the huge monster of corruption must be slain, it should not be done at the expense of the health of the Chairman or the other staff.
