The Bayelsa state Police Command has warned residents of the state to desist from any form of protests, processions or rallies or risk prosecution.

This is as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the governorship result for Ogbia local government area with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, topping the chart.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer in the area, Dr Evans Eze said All Progressives Congress, APC, scored 9,106 votes, PDP 13,051 while the PDM scored 86 votes.

The Police Command said that rallies, illegal demonstrations and processions have been banned in the State.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIGP in charge of Training and Development, Hashimu Arugugu stated this in a statement in Yenagoa as INEC concluded the ongoing announcement of election results.

Arugugu said information at his disposal revealed that some disgruntled elements were planning to carry out illegal demonstrations, processions and rallies.

The DIG said this form of conduct would jeopardize the ongoing electoral process and that the Command would deal decisively with any person or groups caught in the act.

He insisted that such conduct would compromise the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.

The Command also advised members of the public to go about their normal business as security agents were poised to guarantee safety of lives and property.
