Akwa Ibom State Government says it would soon engage the services of geoscientists in groping for solid minerals to boosts the state’s economy.
Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Dr. Elijah Akpan disclosed this to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday.
He said, the geologists would be consulted to ascertain locations and viability for mining of solid minerals such as gold and coal deposits.
This position may be informed by the apparently drop in revenue accruable to the state from the federation account in recent times.
Akpan also said, the state government has also partnered with China investors for the industrial take-off of the state.
According to him, “Chinese and Canadians are coming with superior technology that will be based on using satellite technology to locate the exact places these minerals are found and how viable they will be” adding, the initiative was part of the plans to create employment which will discourage over reliance on crude oil.
AKICORP boss however hinted that, the visit of Chinese investment delegation to the state last October was rewarding as the delegation were visibly satisfied with what their experience in the state.
Areas of interest by the team he said were manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, oil and gas, automobile, mining, tourism, energy and railway.
