Bayelsa Queens FC defeat Simba Queens to win maiden CAF Women’s Champions League Bronze medal

Juliet Sunday scored the only goal as Bayelsa Queens FC of Nigeria claimed the bronze medal at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League with 1-0 win over Simba Queens of Tanzania.

The goal arrived in the 71st minute to hand the Nigerian club side a 1-0 victory over Simba Queens in the 3rd place match on Saturday evening.

A first appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League for the NWFL Champions in Morocco, Bayelsa Queens FC put behind the semi-final loss to ASFAR FC to win Nigeria’s first medal in CAF Women’s club competitions.

In the 3rd-place match, Bayelsa Queens FC had goalkeeper Bawou Gabrielle to thank for her outstanding performance to keep the tie level until Juliet Sunday struck the winner.

Bawou Gabrielle deservingly got the player of the match award.

For the top prize, defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will face ASFAR FC of Morocco to determine the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League winner.
