Bayelsa re-run polls: Dickson wins Southern Ijaw; PDP scores 23,081 votes, APC 10,216

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has formerly declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the candidate of the party, Governor Seriake Dickson the winner of the Saturday, Southern Ijaw Supplementary poll.

PDP scored a total of 23,081 votes to emerge winner of the supplementary Election while the All Progressives Congress, APC, pulled only 10,216 votes.

Declaring the results, INEC Collation Officer for Southern Ijaw, Dr. Johnson Dagana said over 927 votes were rejected while a total of 39,679 votes were cancelled due to over voting, snatching of electoral materials and non use of card reader machines in some areas in the locality.

According to the INEC collation Officer for Southern Ijaw, in 17 wards in Koluoama, election was not held due to late arrival of electoral materials

While over 120 units in 14 registered areas were cancelled due to electoral frauds like over voting, snatching of materials and non use of card readers.

Speaking shortly before the Southern Ijaw result was announced, Dr. Dagana said a total of 120,827 voters were registered, while 35,594 persons were accredited and only 34,534 votes were cast in the area.

Following the emergence of PDP as winner in the Southern Ijaw re run poll, the party scored 29,240 votes in all the re run elections held by INEC across the state while APC scored 14,258 votes in all the re run units including Southern Ijaw.

Recall that in the December 5 governorship election, PDP led by Governor Dickson polled over 105, 000 votes whilethe Chief Timipre Sylva- led APC polled over 72,000 of the votes collated by INEC.

APC party agent, Dennis Otiotio rejected the results from Southern Ijaw and accused INEC adhoc staff of deliberate attempts to cancel all APC’s results from its strongholds .

But, Alfred Agabadi of PDP blamed APC for the wanton violence witnessed in the area, adding that APC does not deserve any results in the area as they propagated violence.
