Following the economic recession being experienced in the country, Bayelsans have been urged to be industrious than depend solely on government and salaries to feed their families.

Equally, youths of the state have been admonished to make use of their intellectual capabilities to drive the state so that Bayelsa would no longer be tagged a civil servant state.

Delivering a sermon on the way forward for the state, Special Adviser to Governor Henry Seriake Dickson on Religious Matters, Pastor Samuel John Peters decried the laziness of the average Bayelsan who prefers to beg to survive than work hard and thrive.

Pastor Peters spoke in Yenagoa during the State’s Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the 20th year of the state’s creation, at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre on Sunday

The clergyman admonished youths to harness their innate potentials and work hard, stressing that, God has blessed every human being with what is required to live a fulfilled life, without depending completely on others.

He quoted Ecclesiastes Chapter 9:10 and Proverbs 12:24, “those who are slothful and depend on others, only attract poverty and misery to their families”

According to him, ” people who do not know the dignity of labour end in total penury ”

He urged Bayelsans to develop themselves intellectually through legitimate means, especially in agriculture than depend on the government for all their needs.

“If Bayelsans are industrious and hard working, they can produce every food to feed the people than depend on monthly allocations and salaries,” he said.

The clergy charged Christians to always preach hard work, and not miracles without labour

Hear him, “if we do not work hard as individuals, we shall end up suffering the more as the Bible said God does not provide for the lazy man”

Earlier in his speech, Governor, Seriake Dickson urged the people of the state to sink their political differences and work together for the common good of the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Gboribiogha John Jonah, Dickson called on Bayelsans to pool their resources together for th e development of the state.

He noted that the restoration government would do everything within its reach to drive the infrastructural and human capital development of the state, through the formulation and implementation of appropriate policies and programmes, despite the challenge of dwindling resources.

Dickson commended the Armed Forces for their sacrifices, in defending the territorial integrity and unity of the nation and urged Nigerians to keep hope alive in the face of the biting economic recession.
