AKSG did not withdraw ex-Gov Udom Emmanuel’s security  – Information Commissioner

The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked reports alleging that security personnel attached to the immediate past Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, were withdrawn.

In a statement made available to journalists, the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, described the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated, stressing that no such directive was ever issued by the current administration.

According to Umanah, the deployment, reassignment, or withdrawal of police officers remains the exclusive responsibility of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the State Commissioner of Police, not the Governor.

“I can tell you on good authority that the Governor did not issue any directive to withdraw security operatives from the immediate past Governor,” Umanah stated.

He further explained that all former Governors of Akwa Ibom State are entitled to, and continue to enjoy, their security details as provided by law.

“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no complaint or report from any former Governor or their media aides about the withdrawal of security personnel. The rumour exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” he added.

Umanah urged members of the public to disregard what he described as baseless propaganda, reaffirming that Governor Umo Eno remains committed to peace, unity, and good governance in the State.

He assured that the Governor will continue to ensure that every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, enjoys the full protection and benefits of the law.
