Buhari presides over Virtual FEC; Condoles with Diya over wife’s death

Abuja, May 20, 2020

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday presided over the virtual session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Those who participated in the meeting alongside the president at the Council Chamber include Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Others at the chamber were the Ministers of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; Education, Adamu Adamu; Justice, Abubakar Malami and Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Petroleum (State), Timipre Sylva.

NAN reports that the remaining Ministers and the Head of Service, Mrs Folashade Yemi-Esan participated directly from their various offices.

NAN also reports that the Council observed a minute silence in honour of former Minister of State for Education, Alhaji Mohammed Dogondaji.

The deceased, who served between 1993 and 1994 under the defunct Ibrahim Babangida regime, died on May 15.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has commiserated with former Chief of General Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya, over the passing of his wife, Deborah Folashade Diya, praying that the almighty God will comfort the family.

The President’s condolence message was released by Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Wednesday.

President Buhari joined family members, friends, and associates of Chief Folashade Diya, particularly members of the United African Methodist (Evangelical) Church, in mourning the devout Christian.

The President noted that the deceased dedicated her time on earth to serving God, and working for the good of others.

He affirmed that the wife of the former Chief of General Staff lived to encourage and inspire many on faith in God, “demonstrating love, kindness and generosity through focus on helping the underprivileged, and counselling many.’’

The President prayed that the soul of the departed would find rest in God.
