CAF Confederation Cup: Bendel Insurance FC defeat Aso Chlef to reach second qualifying round

Bendel Insurance of Benin defeated Algerian side ASO Chlef 4-3 on Penalties in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round fixture on Saturday, August 26.

Aso Chlef won the second leg in Algiers 1-0 to tie the aggregate score at 1-1 after the Nigerian side had won the first leg last weekend.

That result forced penalty shoot-out in Algiers.

Nigeria Federation Cup Champions Bendel Insurance emerged victorious 4-3 to break Chlef hearts and extend their poor form vs Nigerian teams in the competition.

Sunshine Stars had defeated Aso Chlef over two years in the competition and that run has been extended with the victory by Bendel Insurance FC in the 2023/2024 season.

Monday Odigie tutored Bendel Insurance FC will now face former champions RSB Berkane in the CAF Confederation Cup second qualifying round.

The aggregate winner of that clash will advance to the group stage.

Nigeria’s other representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Rivers United FC were drawn bye in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round and will now join in the next round.
