

Friends and associates of Prof George Obiozor, late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who died in December 2022, and people of goodwill from far and near, will gather at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 10:00 am, to pay tribute to the departed icon.
A statement by Chief (Sir) Goddy Uwazurike, said that the gathering of the Who is Who from Diplomatic circles, from the Academia and from the socio-cultural groups that make up the country, among others, has the sole purpose of coming to eulogize the man who bestrode these sectors like a colossus at different times in his eventful life.
Prof George Obiozor was an erudite scholar and celebrated author, served as Director General of the NIIA, was Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States and the State of Israel with concurrent accreditation to Cyprus, before becoming the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a position he occupied till his demise.
As President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he devoted time towards networking with leaders of other socio-cultural organizations like the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-cultural body, the Middle Belt Forum and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) among others, towards evolution of a more united and progressive Nigeria.
He championed the cause of a Nigerian President from the South in 2023, particularly one from the South East geo-political zone of the country, in the interest of equity, justice and fairness, and he traversed the length and breadth of the country canvassing the popular position.
He also dedicated his life to mentoring and motivating the younger generation from different parts of the country, and for all he did while he lived, Chief Uwazuruike said that Professor Obiozor is owed a debt of gratitude, and turning out to pay him tribute on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, on an international platform, will be one way of paying that debt to a departed great patriot and visionary leader.
