The Chinua Achebe Leadership in Africa Forum will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Yale University’s Henry R. Luce Hall in New Haven, Connecticut. The event will bring together a distinguished group of leaders, policymakers, and scholars to explore the future of leadership and governance in Africa.
The Forum, named in honor of the late Professor Chinua Achebe, a renowned Nigerian writer and intellectual, will feature a series of discussions and keynote addresses focused on addressing Africa’s contemporary challenges and opportunities. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the auditorium of Room 101.
The Forum’s keynote speaker will be Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria. As one of Africa’s most respected statesmen, Obasanjo will share his insights on leadership, democracy, and development across the continent, drawing on his extensive experiences in both government and global diplomacy.
Distinguished Speakers Include:
Seleshi B. Awulachew, MP, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and former Minister of Water, Irrigation, and Energy, who will address sustainable development and infrastructure in Africa.
Obiageli Ezekwesili, President of Human Capital Africa, founder of the #FixPolitics initiative, and former Minister of Education in Nigeria, will discuss governance reforms and the importance of political accountability.
Robie Kakonge, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the United States, will offer perspectives on Africa’s diplomatic and international relations.
Peter Obi, Former Governor of Anambra State, Nigeria, will speak on the role of leadership in promoting economic growth and regional stability.
Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, Nigeria, will share his insights into governance and public sector reforms while Rawia Tawfik, Visiting Scholar at the Yale Council on African Studies, will provide an academic perspective on African leadership and political transformations.
Bisa Williams, retired U.S. Ambassador and Senior Fellow at the Jackson School of Global Affairs, will, at the event, discuss the role of African-American diplomacy in fostering international cooperation.
The Forum aims to foster a deeper understanding of leadership challenges across the continent, while exploring innovative solutions to enhance governance, development, and peace in Africa.
