The final countdown to the much awaited release of EYIMOFE (This is My Desire), the sensational, multiple award-winning Nigeria feature film, in New York, United States of America (USA) on July 23, 2021, has started.
Directed by Nigerian-born Directors, twin brothers, Arie and Chuko Esiri, the film that has won accolades across the world would, after New York be released in other major cities, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Maryland, Texas, Washington DC, Vancouver and Toronto.
As part of the build up to the release of the film, which was shot in Lagos, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), organizers of the globally celebrated OSCAR Awards will, on July 19, 2021, air a panel on African filmmakers which will include the pace-setting Directors of EYIMOFE.
Tickets for the film will go on sale on July 18, 2021.
There is already palpable excitement in the Americas, especially among the black community, in anticipation of the coming of EYIMOFE, the film trailer and poster of which, the North American distributor will release from July 5 to 10, 2021.
Fully financed in Nigeria and shot on 16mm, EYIMOFE is the first film from GDN Studios and is produced by Melissa O. Adeyemo. The Executive Producers include Maiden Alex Ibru, Toke Alex Ibru, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, Kayode Akindele, and Ifeoma Esiri.
The two-chapter film, set in Lagos, captures the stories of Mofe (Jude Akuwudike), a factory technician and Rosa (Temi Ami-Williams), a hairdresser, and their quest for what they considered a better life abroad.
Janus Films recently announced its acquisition of EYIMOFE for the North American market. The film will be released in theatres on July 23, followed by a streaming release on the Criterion Channel and home video release via the Criterion Collection.
