The Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), an NGO, on Thursday distributed Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) against COVID-19 to Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in three endemic local government areas in Sokoto State.
Hajiya Hafsatu Halilu, the Sokoto State Coordinator of PPFN, said during the distribution that it was the second phase of such intervention by the organisation in the state.
Halilu said the kits were donated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
She listed the benefiting local government areas as Dange/Shuni, Wamakko and Sokoto South, explaining that they were chosen due to high number of COVID-19 cases recorded there.
”For the second phase of the PPEs, UNFPA donated 43,200 kits which are meant to protect health workers across the three selected LGAs who were the most vulnerable segment of the society,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Volunteer Organisation of PPFN, Mr Ibrahim Galadanchi, assured the donors that the equipment would be delivered to the designated PHCs as directed.
Galadanchi said that items donated include 10,000 surgical facemasks;10,000 short hand gloves, hand sanitizers, disinfectants, long hand gloves and hand washing equipment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by officials from the state Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the UNFPA.
