Dankwambo ends speculation, declares interest in presidential position

Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State has formerly declared his intention to contest the Presidency of the country on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.
The Governor made the declaration during a meeting of stakeholders of the party held Saturday evening at the Banquet Hall of the Gombe State Government House.
There had been speculations regarding Dankwambo ambition with calls from groups and individuals from different parts of the country for Dankwambo to take a shot at the Presidency.
The meeting had in attendance the National Deputy Chairman of the party in the Northeast, Alhaji Babayo Gamawa, all state chairmen of the party in all the six States of the zone, party officials, elders among others.
Dankwambo told the gathering that he would have dropped his ambition if the people of the zone are against it. It was at this point, he asked the delegates if he should contest to which the entire hall answered in affirmation.
He said the zone was long due for the Presidency after a very long time since the regime of late Abubakar Tafawa Balewa adding that “we have been consulting and seeking the support of other zones to produce the next President of the country in 2019.
According to him, the zone needs to present a candidate with formidable track records of achievement which the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had failed Nigerians woefully to offer. It is in this light that he said he is offering himself.
He chided President Muhammadu Buhari for promising to tackle Boko Haram in his first three months in office and turn around the economic fortunes of the country saying, it is over three years now and the country is still living with security challenges and bad economy.
