The Republic of Denmark has expressed its readiness to partner Nigeria in the area of energy development, environment and waste management saying, the country is blessed with natural resources and great economic potential.

Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Getter-Mann Torben disclosed this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital on Monday, during a courtesy visit to the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. (Hon.) Onofiok Luke.

The envoy, who was accompanied by his wife, pledged the readiness of his country to offer assistance to the state in developing its energy sector, waste management and clean environment amongst others, describing Nigeria in the African continent as one that abounds with great possibilities.

Mr. Torben commended the House leadership and members for the warm reception accorded them, as well as for making laws to better the lots of the people.

Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. (Hon.) Onofiok Luke in his response pledged the commitment of the sixth assembly to make laws that would promote the development of the state, in line with the vision of the present administration for the betterment of the people.

He thanked the Envoy, for the readiness of Denmark to partner the state in the industrialization drive of the state and solicited technological assistance in the area of waste management and recycling.

“Our responsibility is to strengthen those visions of government with bye-laws to protect the industrialization of the state. We will like to tap from your wealth of knowledge”, he stated.

While re-affirming the resolve of the House to always be on the side of the people, the Speaker explained that, the present assembly was poised to leave behind enduring legacies of effective and purposeful representation.

The lawmakers present during the visit by the Danish Envoy were: the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Felicia Bassey, the member representing Abak State Constituency, Rt. (Hon.) Friday Iwok, member, Nsit Atai, Hon. Mark Esset, and Ukanafun representative, Hon. Otobong Jonathan.
