Discountenance malicious report on NIDCOM and Itunu’s father – Spokesman

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission

Nov. 17, 2021:

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has cried out over a “malicious ” report concerning the death of a Cote d’Ivoire-based Nigerian,  Itunu Babalola (aka Miss Becky Paul).

While reassuring that “the Nigerian Mission in Cote d’Ivoire is working on procedure and protocols to ensure autopsy is conducted on Itunu Babalola’s corpse,” NiDCOM, in a statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, its Head of Media and Public Relations, noted that the source of information for the story “is false, misleading , inconsiderate and inhumane.”

Full text of statement reads:

Our attention was drawn to a malicious report on Sahara Reporters entitled : “Abike-Dabiri-led agency told us not to grant media interviews –father of Nigerian girl,  Itunu, who died in Cote d’Ivoire prison”

On the contrary, Itunu’s  father who is still grieving the death of his daughter is quite disturbed that politics is being played into this unfortunate  incident, and is worried about incessant barrage from some bloggers.

The Nigerian Mission in Cote d’Ivoire is working on procedure and protocols to ensure autopsy is conducted on Itunu Babalola’s corpse (aka Miss Becky Paul).

The source Sahara Reporters purportedly quoted from twitter without doing their own investigation is false, misleading , inconsiderate and inhumane. Please see further details on the statement by the Nigerian mission in Côte d’Ivoire on their ,website www.nigerianembabidjan.gov.ng

Signed.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun
Head of Media and Public Relations
NIDCOM, Abuja.
