The Police in Bayelsa state has arrested a Medical Doctor and a Nurse over the sudden disappearance of a new born baby in their hospital located at Igbogene near the state capital.
Police said the doctor and the nurse supervised the delivery of the new born before its disappearance.
Narrating her ordeal, the mother of the baby, Nnenna Florence told the Igbogene police division that she agreed with the hospital management,(the doctor and the nurse) to sell the baby after delivery for Two Hundred Thousand naira only, but later changed her mind about the sale of the baby as agreed.
Nnenna Florence said she delivered the baby at Survival Hospital Igbogene at about 10 pm on 3rd February, 2016, but when her baby disappeared from the hospital, she reported to the Police the next day, 4th of same month.
Although, Nnenna had arranged with the Doctor and the Nurse to sell the new born baby to one woman who is now at large for N200,000 upon delivery, she later changed her mind, but to her surprise, the baby then disappeared.
Police statement insisted that prior to the delivery, “she had arranged with the Doctor and the Nurse of the hospital to sell the baby to one woman now at large, at the sum of two hundred thousand Naira only, but upon delivery of the baby, she changed her mind and refused to sell the baby as agreed.”
The command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, said that the Doctor and the Nurse are undergoing interrogation at Igbogene Police Station.
The spokesman said investigation into the matter is ongoing.
