In continuation of its efforts at ensuring strict compliance with the Federal government regulated pump price for petroleum products, the Department of Petroleum Resources,(DPR) Friday sealed five filling stations in Benin city which were selling the products above the stipulated price.
Some of the stations sealed according to the Operations Controller of the agency were involved in under dispensing the products to unsuspecting customers.
It also reiterated the agency’s earlier threat to sell for free to the general public products from any marketer who is found wanting.
The Operations Controller, Maynard Oriaifo, who led a team on the ongoing checks to enforce approved pump price of Premium motor spirit of N86.50 per litre observed that the long queues of motorists waiting to buy the product at filling stations will soon be a thing of the past.
It was discovered during the checks that most of the filling stations were dispensing the product for as much as N150 per litre while others were under dispensing to their customers as much as four litres for every ten litres sold.
Oriaifo listed the stations sealed to include Voe Oil Nigeria Limited, Airport road, Chunks Agho petroleum Limited ,Upper Mission Road, Raptor Petroleum Limited,Upper Mission, Faith In God and Propel Oil in Benin city.
The DPR vowed to continue to seal any filling stations that refuse to do what is right by not adjusting their pump price to sell at N86.50 per litre.
“The Department of Petroleum Resources will go after any station selling fuel above pump price and will dispense the products to customers for free while the station will be sealed,” he warned.
