Ebonyi Police rescue kidnapped 72-year old man

The Ebonyi State Police Command, Friday said it has rescued a 72-year old man, Ottah Alom Eyeghe who was abducted last weekend in his Amaosonta, Oso-Edda residence by kidnappers unhurt and without any payment of ransom.

Confirming the release of the victim, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu said the Police has consequently arrested an alleged principal mastermind of the incident, one Sunday Okereke while another suspect whose identity was not yet disclosed to him as at Press time is also cooling off in Police custody.

While giving details of how the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SAKS rescued the victim, DSP Madu said its men were highly professional in their strategy which he said made the criminals to become uncomfortable, thus forcing them to abandon the victim and run away as Police closed-in on them in their hide-out at a boarder forest between Oso-Edda and neighbouring Amasiri in Afikpo North LGA of the State.

“The efforts of our Officers which was in a very professional way paid off on the 4th of March 2017 when they were able to rescue the old man. No ransom was paid. Other suspects are still on the run and we are making efforts to arrest all of them”, the PPRO informed.

It would be recalled that the kidnappers had stormed the residence of the victim at about 2 a.m on the 1st of March this year and abducted him. They were said to have taken the old man to a forest but since the victim had no Mobile Phone, they could not contact his son who works with an oil company for ransom.

The PPRO warned people to desist from kidnapping as its punishment is severe and maintained that the Police will not spare anyone caught in any criminal act. He further called on the members of the public to avail police with adequate information whenever they get wind of any incident of kidnapping in their neighbourhood.
