Embassy of Cuba celebrates Nigeria at 61; Launches social media platforms
The Embassy of Nigeria Havana, Cuba celebrated Nigeria’s 61stIndependence Anniversary at the Official Residence of the Ambassador on Friday, October 1, 2021.
Highlights of the event, according to a statement by the Embassy, were cutting of the anniversary cake, interaction with the Nigerian students and a special meeting with the African diplomatic group of Ambassadors on humanitarian assistance to the host Authority.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Benaoyagha B. M. Okoyen was on Cuban National Television Channel (Cuba Vision) for a special interview session for six minutes on Nigeria – Cuba relations.
Messages of congratulation from different countries were received including a special message of goodwill delivered at the residence of the Ambassador from the President of Cuba, Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
Ambassador Ben Okoyen, who is the champion, and the coordinator of the African Group of Ambassadors in Havana, used the occasion to host a meeting of the group, where they agreed to raise funds in support of Cuba in the face of the current corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Thereafter, the Ambassador in his interaction with the Nigerian Community also launched the Nigerian Centre Project in Cuba; presented the Digital Diary of activities of Ambassador Ben B. M. Okoyen; Embassy sponsored documentary on Nigeria’s history, governance, and opportunities; the official website of the Mission, and other social media platforms for proper Diplomatic engagement and effective service delivery.

Ambassador Okoyen in his anniversary address sent special messages of congratulation from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Havana, Cuba, to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, and the people of Nigeria. The Embassy and the Nigerian Community further prayed for extraordinary wisdom and support for Mr. President to continue to exhibit the usual exemplary leadership qualities of improving the security, tackling corruption, and revitalizing the national economy.
