Less than 48 hours after the former Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Sullivan Chime announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another chieftain of the party in the state, Barr. Uche Ozokwor has decamped from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ozokwor, a United States’- based legal practitioner who returned to the country some years back to become a staunch member and financier of PDP, switched camps at the weekend in a ceremony at his Ward 12, Ngwo Hilltop, in Enugu North local government area.
In his remarks while receiving Ozokwor, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who led other executives of the party to the event, boasted that PDP has become a shadow of itself in the state and that the final bell for the burial of the party would be sounded in the 2019 general elections.
He said, “We have redefined the politics of Enugu state, ward by ward, zone by zone; APC is taking over. It can never be the same again; we have planted our men in all the 260 political wards and people are embracing us due to the good works of this administration”.
He said that it was good that Ozokwor heeded advice from the party to take advantage of the re-registration exercise of APC to join the party, noting that like those who recently joined APC including the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; the former governor of old Anambra state Chief Jim Nwobodo; the former Speaker of Enugu state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh; the Managing Director of Peace Mass Transit Ltd, Sam Onyishi and Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, all the new entrants are equal joiners and equal stakeholders.
Earlier in his remarks, Ozokwor expressed gratitude to the party for receiving him, and promised to mobilize his people to ensure that APC takes over his local government and the state in future elections. He said APC is doing a good job in the zone especially with the reconstruction of Enugu-Onitsha express road and Enugu-Port Harcourt express road and urged party members to market the party with pride in the zone.
It will be recalled that the former governor, Chime had at the weekend announced the withdrawal of his membership of the PDP, describing the party as “dead and cremated”. He however stated that he was yet to join
the APC.
