Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has hailed President Mohammadu Buhari for the release of former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki and Journalist/Activist, Omoyele Sowore from detention.

Dr Fayemi said President Buhari’s intervention has once again confirmed that he is a stickler for due process and an apostle of the rule of law.

The Governor has also congratulated Christians in the state and the country in general for witnessing another Christmas and urged them to continue to live by example in matters relating to love, goodwill and peace.

In a statement on the release of Dasuki and Sowore by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Fayemi described the President’s gesture, which came on Christmas eve, as a good Christmas gift for the duo, their families and associates as well as a soothing balm for the country.

“Again, the President has demonstrated that he is the father of the nation through his intervention that led to the release from detention of the two prominent citizens,” he said.

Dr Fayemi, who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum said, he was particularly happy that the two prominent citizens regained their freedom, while hearing in their cases continued. This, he said should be the norm.

“The President, by this intervention, has reinforced the fact that nobody is deemed guilty of an offence until pronounced guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“This is good for the country. We congratulate Col Dasuki and Sowore and salute the President for the fatherly gesture,” the Governor added.

In his Christmas message, signed by Mr. Oyebode, Dr Fayemi, also called for the celebration of the essence of Christmas through practical demonstration of love and peaceful co -existence with one another.

The Governor said the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ calls for joy and felicitations among the people of God, urging Nigerians to make out time to make rejoice and celebrate with family and friends and renew themselves in the light of peace and joy that Christmas represents.

He urged Nigerians irrespective of their religious beliefs to open their hearts with love in relation to one another, celebrate and pray for the unity and progress of the country as well as a better tomorrow.

The Governor said: “This is a season of joy. We must celebrate with one another and in doing that, spare some time for reflections and supplication to God who rules in the affairs of men.

“To every Christian, Christmas means liberation and salvation by the Almighty. It is also a time to reach out to fellow compatriots in love irrespective of religious leaning. Let us all walk in love, pray and work together for a greater country.”

Dr Fayemi also urged the people to reflect on their individual contributions to the peace and progress of their immediate community and the state in general, during and after the festive season.

Fayemi said: “Christmas is the season of love, joy, generosity and forgiveness. While we celebrate with friends and family, we should also reflect on our individual contribution to the peace and progress of our immediate community and the larger society.

“That peaceful and prosperous state we all desire would be realised when we live in love and show consideration for others around us. We can achieve more if we stay united, extend hands of fellowship to one another and be law abiding.” He said.
