The Chairman, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ministerial Press Corps Mr. Ikharo Attah has canvassed the necessity for media practitioners to hold both the government and the governed accountable in the enterprise of governance.

Mr. Ikharo Attah, made this call during his remarks at the media briefing held by the FCT Minster, Muhammad Musa Bello to commemorate his two years in office.

Mr. Attah commended the FCT Minister for showing courage to embark on a paradigm shift by driving ongoing projects to completion which according to him, “has attracted the admiration of many FCT stakeholders including past and present leaders.” He alluded the Minister’s strategy is a pointer that the nation would go far if it did not matter who took the credit.

The Press Corps Chairman noted that governance is a partnership between the citizens and government, charging that the burden of law should not be tipped so much against the government that it is always left to carry the can for erring citizens.

His words, “For far too long, the media has tended to give so much liberties to erring citizens. The Citizens are not infallible and should be held accountable when need arises.”  He stressed that it is unfair to manipulate one stakeholder, whether the government or the governed.”

He said “for the nation to make progress, both the government and the governed must recognize their responsibilities and do their bit,” while urging the media to support the policies and efforts of the administration to restore the dream of Abuja as a model that Nigerans would be proud of.

During the occasion, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, expressed the readiness of the Administration to address concerns of residents over reports of high-handedness made on some members of the Task Force. He stressed that FCTA would investigate reports of such cases with a view to reining in any excesses, found on any task team official while pleading with the resident to be law abiding and to support the efforts of the Administration to stem the nuisance and deviant behaviours in the FCT.
