As more governorship aspirants emerged on the platform of Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Obong Ide Owodiong Idemeko has advised voters at all levels to shun pecuniary gains and vote people with competency into public office come 2023 in order to promote development and progress.
Ide, who is vying for governorship under the PDP made this known during consultation of the Chapter Officers of PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area of the state on Saturday, emphasizing that, if he is elected, he would bring his wealth of experience in administration to turn around the fortunes of the state.
According to him, ”I am coming into the race to make a difference in the style of governance by improving the quality of education, ensuring massive agricultural implementation/food sufficiency and empowerment of the citizens among other goals.”
Ide, who advocated attitudinal change towards politics also urged the electorate to remain vigilant all through the electioneering process to ensure that their votes count to preserve democracy.
”The people of Akwa ibom should shine their eyes now, we must get it right to enhance our development and progress, we must strive to protect our democracy by ensuring that our votes count and we must choose competent people at all levels of public office against those with immediate pecuniary benefits”, he added.
The chapter chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibesikpo Asutan council area, Hon. Pastor Uwem Etim extolled the sterling qualities of the aspirant and prayed God to see him through the primaries and the general election. “The good Lord who has started a good work in you will make it perfect, we will stand with you through the race to the end in appreciation of what you have done for us in this community and the state” he added.
Hon Eyakno Etukudo, a former member of the state House of Assembly described the aspiration of Obong Ide Owodiong as timely owing to his wealth of experience in administration and love for humanity.
Etukudo, who appealed to Akwa Ibomites to give Obong Ide their unalloyed support and votes said the aspirant whom he knows very closely has a good heart and remains compassionate mostly to the indigent members of the society.
Highpoint of the event was prayer session conducted for the success of the aspirant.
