FRSC to recruit credible marshals

AGENE GODWIN, Benin

The Edo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Tuesday, said only persons of credible character would be considered as Special Marshals of the state command.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Oluwasusi Familoni‎, who said this Tuesday, at the commencement of a 3-day recruitment for Special Marshals in Benin, added that the exercise would hold at Ekpoma and Auchi in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Addressing the prospective Special Marshals, Familoni said the exercise was a fill-up gap recruitment to make up the available spaces approved for the state.

He announced that a total of 104 Special Marshals would be selected from the three senatorial districts of the state to make up the required 200 needed to complete 700 Special Marshals.

‎According to the Commander, for one to be eligible as a Special Marshal, an applicant must be 28 years and above, have interest to serve, a car owner and with reasonable means of livelihood  who must possess a valid vehicle and driver’s license and should be able to express himself or herself in the simplest English language.

‎Familoni said these requirements were a necessary sine-quanon to be selected, adding that “Special Marshals have equal rights as regular Marshals in the discharge of their duties, including, sanction, arrest and prosecution of traffic offenders.’’

.He disclosed that aside tertiary institutions, the corps continues to operate FRSC clubs in secondary schools and National Youth Service Corps.

Vehicles and original copies of vehicle particulars, including driver’s licences of the applicantswere screened for genuineness as part of the exercise.

The State Special Marshal Coordinator, Mr Friday Ekhator and ‎the Zonal/Deputy National Coordinator of Special Marshals were on ground to conduct the screening and were assisted by officials from the State Licensing office and other relevant agencies.
