Gombe PDP condemns attack on Senator: Wants Police to investigate incident

Mr. Joel Adamu Jagafa.

The Gombe State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Joel Adamu Jagafa has condemned the violent attack on Senator Joshua Lidani, by irate youths in Talasse, Balanga LGA last Monday.
Reacting on behalf of the Chairman through an interview with our Correspondent, the State Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Buba Shanu, said the party roundly condemns the attack on the PDP Senator and called on the Police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the culprits and their sponsors to book.
He described the attack as a failed attempt to discredit the Party and the Government of Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
According to him, “what happened in Balanga was criminal and unfortunate. To the best of my knowledge, we’ve been informed that this involved some criminal elements in Talasse town where some people put together some youths to attempt to molest the Senator in order to discredit the party and the ruling PDP Government in the State.
” This is unacceptable, not only undemocratic but criminal. We will not accept it in Gombe State. We are known for education, tolerance and restraint. This is not what the Party or Government will tolerate and we urge the authorities to do their best to fish out these criminal elements and prosecute them.
“We want the Police and Army that intervened in the matter to come in but I want the Police and the DSS to do the best they can to ensure that their agents go to Talasse, investigate appropriately and bring the culprits to book”, he stated.
Senator Joshua Lidani, a one time Deputy Governor of Gombe State who represents Gombe South in the Senate was reportedly attacked and his motorcade pelted with stones last Monday in Talasse, Balanga LGA during a visit to the area on the allegations of poor representation in the Senate.
The State Police Commissioner, Shina Tairu Olukolu confirmed the incident and told Journalists that it took the efforts of the Police and Army to rescue the Senator who was allegedly held hostage in the Palace of the Bala Waja for over five hours.
