The Gombe State Police Commissioner, Austine Iwar has revealed that the Command lost 33 Police officers while fighting insurgents and providing other protective services.
The Police Commissioner stated this Thursday during the Special prayer session offered for the departed officers adding that the gallant officers died in the line of duty while many of them sustained various degrees of injuries.
According to him, “there is something special in each of the fallen Police officers because they gave their lives under different circumstances, but for no reason than to serve and to protect our communities and our country”.
The Police boss explained that each of the officers being remembered faced danger every working day, like each member or officer in the Command. In his words, “Each morning, a Police wakes up, prepares for work knowing full well that chances exist in which they may never make it back home”.
He stated further that the officers accepted and went out to meet danger so that others could be safe and did so with utmost bravery and regardless of age or experience stressing that they put country first before self.
He declared that the force would continue to honour these men and women for years to come. He also extolled the virtues of the fallen Police officers including fidelity, bravery, integrity, honour, duty as well as accurate sacrifice.
