Gombe Police deploy 1,000 for Saturday’s Dukku North State Constituency bye election

Gov. Ibrahim Dankwabo, Gombe State Governor
The Gombe State Police Command says it will deploy no less than 1,000 Policemen for the Dukku North State Assembly bye election holding this Saturday.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Austin Iwar, stated this Thursday at the Command’s Headquarters during its quarterly conference with Senior Police Officers of the Command.
He called on the people of the constituency to ensure that they abide by the electoral laws to ensure a hitch free bye-election into the State Legislature following the demise of Mallam Gambo Kabade in June this year.
Earlier while reviewing the crime situation in the State from January to June, Mr. Iwar said the Command recorded six per cent decline in crime in the State because of its redoubled vigour in the discharge of its responsibilities.
According to him, the Command recorded 36 cases of armed robbery against 42 within the same period last year. He explained further that within the same period under review, the Command recorded eight rape cases against 13 last year, zero cases of terrorism, 250 theft cases as against 256 last year while there were five cases of kidnapping as against 10 last year and one communal clash this year, the same with last year.
The Police Commissioner then called on the people of the State to adequately support the Police to make Gombe communities safer as this would go a long way in helping the Command to reduce the number of unrepentant offenders and improve security and safety of the State.
“The Police in Gombe is concerned about the recurring cases of rape in Gombe state, especially that of innocent minor girls by persons who are supposed to be their guardians”, he said.
In this regard, the Commissioner stated, the Command in collaboration with relevant MDAs was making efforts to reduce the incidence but appealed to parents and guardians to pay more attention to the care of their children and wards.
