Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has described the emergence of Nigeria’s Dream Team VI as champions in the just concluded Africa Under 23 Football Championship in Senegal as a heart warming development that underscores the inherent potentials of Nigerians and passion for excellence in all human endeavours.
Gov. Ahmed in a statement by Abdulwahab Oba, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor commended the perseverance and unsuccumbing spirit of the Dream Team VI players and the technical crew led by Samson Siasia in overcoming all oppositions enroute their emergence as African Champions despite financial challenges they allegedly had to contend with before and during the championship.
The governor also noted that the rebuilding of the Super Eagles would now be enhanced by the discovery of senior team players in the Under 23 team that has also qualified for the football event of Rio Olympics as well as the Under 17 team which won the world championship.
On the home front, Gov, Ahmed said his administration remained committed to the rediscovery of Kwara state as the hub of sports excellence in the country through the rehabilitation of the indoor sports Hall at the State Stadium Complex in Ilorin and the reintroduction of school sports for talents discovery .
The governor added that the State owned football club, Kwara United, would be restructured to be better position to regain its Nigeria Premier League slot and rank as one of the best club’s in the country.
