In a display of Executive benevolence to the traditional stool, Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel has presented four 2023 model, Land Cruiser SUVs to traditional rulers in the state.

Paramount Rulers of Itu, Essien Udium, Ikot Abasi and Onna Local Government Areas were presented with the Governor’s gifts on Friday February 10, 2023 in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital.

While presenting the vehicles to the four benefitting Paramount Rulers on Friday, at Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, Governor Emmanuel said it was in fulfilment of his pledge to replace the unserviceable vehicles of the traditional rulers.

The governor stated that the vehicles which will address mobility challenges of the paramount rulers became necessary in order to assist them in their duties at the grassroots.

The Chief Executive who however, regretted the delay in receiving the vehicles due to fluctuation in exchange rate assured that more will be received in subsequent batches for the traditional rulers.

“There are paramount rulers I have been told their vehicles are quite old and unserviceable, we made a pledge that we will give them new vehicles.

“Actually, we would have done this first week in January as we promised but we all know how difficult it is these days to place an order, it takes time because of the fluctuation in exchange rate having gotten this one we say let’s give it out, while we wait for the next batch to come in.“

In his response, the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence Ntenyin Dr. Solomon Etuk, expressed appreciation to the governor for fulfilling his promise to the paramount rulers, describing the gesture as succour to the traditional institution.

Ntenyin Etuk further thanked the governor for his magnanimity towards the paramount rulers in addressing the challenges posed by unserviceable vehicles, noting that clan heads are expecting their vehicles soon.

The beneficiaries are Akuku Cosmas Akpan of Essien Udim, Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang of Itu local government, Edidem Udo Joe Ntukubom of Ikot Abasi and Edidem Raymond Inyang of ONNA local government area.
