Gov. Emmanuel restates Akwa Ibom’s readiness to host Uyo 2022 Police Games, as Games’ logo, mascot get unveiled

Leading up to the 13th Biennial Police Games “Uyo 2022” that continues to gather momentum, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has restated the state’s readiness to host a memorable sports championship when proceedings get underway in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, from November 20, this year.
The Governor stated this while speaking at a colourful ceremony to unveil the Games’ logo and mascot which held, Thursday, at Goodluck Ebele Jonathan PeaceKeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Governor, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, noted that sports is one of the cardinal points of his administration and assured participants of the provision of adequate sports infrastructure and ancillary facilities for the hosting of what he described as “one of the best editions” of the Police Games. He expressed the hope that the championship will throw up sports talents who will follow in the footsteps of Samuel Okon Peter, Chioma Ajunwa, Julius Aghahowa, Sunny Isekwena, among others, to go on and make the country proud at future international championships.
In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, stated that the Games present an opportunity for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to sharpen their physical and mental alertness, promote a sound mind and body and strengthen the esprit de corps existing amongst them. IGP Baba thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel and the people of Akwa Ibom state for accepting to host the Games in the “peaceful and transformed city of Uyo” and pledged to put together a beautiful championship where sporting talents in the Force will be identified.
Highlight of the colourful event, which was also attended by the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, was the unveiling of the Games’ logo and mascot by the IGP in the company of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The 13th Biennial Police Games which has as its theme, “Promoting Sporting Excellence Towards Ensuring Fitness for Operational Exigencies and Combat Readiness” will be staged in Uyo from November 20 to 30, 2022 a statement by Mr. Edidiong Stephen, Spokesperson of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Ministry confirmed.
