Gov. Wike inaugurates committee for 2016 Olympic qualifying matches

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says the approval given to the state by the Nigeria Football Federation to host the qualifying matches of the 2016 Olympic Games, is another opportunity to prove that the state is safe and free for people to invest and carry out their business activities.
Governor Wike stated this while inaugurating the organizing committee for the 2016 Olympic qualifying matches in Port Harcourt.
The Governor who noted that a successful hosting of the Olympic qualifying matches would attract the attention of the outside world to the potentials of the state, charged members of the committee to choose between the Liberation Stadium and the Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium, the most suitable for the qualifying matches.
He warned members of the committee against seeing their appointment as an opportunity to amass wealth, but rather a call to render service and promised that the state would reward them accordingly.
Governor Wike further charged them to work as a team and make consultations when necessary.
He emphasized that security of spectators during the matches should be taken seriously.
Responding, the chairman of the committee Mr. Boma Iyaye thanked the governor for the opportunity given to members to serve and promised that the committee will work assiduously to ensure a successful hosting of the matches.
Other members of the committee are: Chief Adokiye Amasiemaka, Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariah, Mr. Eddy Mark, Mr. Honour Sirawo, Mercy Akidi, Albert Chinwo, representatives of the state security service and the Nigeria Police, the chairman, NFF , Rivers State Others and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports who is to serve as the secretary of the committee.
Port Harcourt is to host the 2016 Olympic qualifying matches between the Super Falcons and their counterparts from Equatorial Guinea on July 18th 2015, while the Dream team will tackle the Olympic team from Congo Democratic Republic on July 19th 2015.
