Grown Ups 3 has begun filming in New Jersey, USA, with actors being seen in Woodbridge, Madison and Morristown. In Morristown, filming was seen at Rod’s Steak and Seafood Grille inside The Madison Hotel in Morris Township, according to Morristownnj.com.

According to a report from Patch, Chris Rock and Adam Sandler were seen filming with a large crew on Wendy Road in the Colonia section of Woodbridge, including Colonia Country Club. Additional crew members were spotted near Colonia High School.

In Madison, Green Village Road was completely closed on August 6 to accommodate filming, with Michael Pellessier, the Borough’s Director of Operations, confirming that the closure was tied directly to the production of Grown Ups 3. Madison is a certified Film Ready New Jersey community, he said, and the Borough works with productions to keep the disruption manageable for residents and businesses, according to New Jersey 101.5.

The film is the third installment in the Grown Ups franchise, which began in 2010 and was followed by Grown Ups 2 in 2013. Grown Ups 3 will feature the majority of the same lead cast as the first two films including Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi and more.

Another recent movie filmed in New Jersey and also featuring Adam Sandler was Happy Gilmore 2, which spent 64 days filming across Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Morris, Somerset, and Monmouth counties in 2024, dropping $152.5 million into the state and setting a new record for production spending in New Jersey. Sandler’s own Happy Madison Productions was back again just last summer, shooting the Netflix film Don’t Say Good Luck in Ridgewood. Sandler has made it a habit to film in New Jersey. Though he was born in New York, recent film projects have brought him closer to the Garden State.

He’s been seen dining at local favorites like Goldberg’s Deli in Millburn and Top’s Diner in Newark. During shoots like Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler and his family moved into Montclair and stayed for the duration, renting a home and living among neighbors. He’s been spotted playing basketball at local courts, shopping at CVS, and even hosting casual meetups with fans. This immersion helps him get into character and connect with the community.

New Jersey also offers tax incentives and “Film Ready New Jersey” certification, a five‑step certification program run by the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission (NJMPTVC) to prepare municipalities, counties, and other local governing units to host motion picture and television productions, making it attractive for productions.

Examples include Boroughs like Madison that work closely with crews to minimize disruptions, ensuring filming can proceed smoothly while keeping the community informed. Many of Sandler’s frequent co-stars, such as Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, also have New Jersey roots or connections, and filming locally strengthens these collaborations and keeps the creative process grounded in familiar territory.

Grown Ups 3 is being developed as a Netflix original, following the success of the first two installments on the streaming service but the release date has not been announced.
