Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a disgraceful 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Bissau.
The defeat is a major setback for Nigeria, who had started their Group L campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo.
Guinea-Bissau took control of the game from the early stages and created several chances against a Nigerian side that struggled to settle into the match.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Franculino Djú.
Renato Nhaga sent a long pass forward to Djú, who dribbled past Bruno Onyemaechi before curling the ball beyond goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Nigeria struggled to respond before half-time, with Guinea-Bissau continuing to put pressure on the Super Eagles defence.
Coach Eric Chelle made changes after the break as Moses Simon and Moses Usor were introduced to help Nigeria find an equaliser.
However, Guinea-Bissau remained the more dangerous side and doubled their lead when Mamadi Camara received a pass from Mama Baldé before dribbling into the Nigerian box and firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
Nigeria failed to produce a comeback despite further changes.
Guinea-Bissau then completed the victory in stoppage time when Álvaro Djaló went on a solo run before beating Nwabali to make it 3-0.
The result gives Guinea-Bissau an important victory in Group L, while Nigeria will have to improve in their next qualifying matches to keep their AFCON hopes on track.
The Super Eagles had defeated Madagascar 2-1 in their opening qualifier, with debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring to complete the comeback.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to their remaining Group L fixtures as they seek to recover from the heavy defeat in Bissau.
