I did not fight Garo – Doguwa; Denies media reports on assault

Hon. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, House of Representatives Majority leader

The House of Representatives Majority leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa has denied media reports purporting that he attacked Kano Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Murtala Garo at a stakeholders meeting held in Kano.

The alleged media reports indicate that Ado-Doguwa attacked and got Garo injured during the said stakeholders meeting of APC at the residence of the Kano Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, on Oct.31.

“Doguwa, upon arrival at the venue complained that he was sidelined by the party leaders on matters pertaining to funds, but only invited to execute difficult party assignments, the development that caused a fight between Doguwa and Garo”

The lawmaker, who is representing Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency in Kano state denied the reports while briefing newsmen in Kano.

“The reports trending on Social media platforms that i attacked Garo was misrepresentation of the truth and fake news.

“I am a law-abiding citizen, a progressive, a team player and a traditional title holder with respect for institutional democracy.

“I would not go to the extent of perpetrating physical attack or inflicting injury on somebody.

“Whatever that is trending in the media is fake news and a mis-representation of what happened at the meeting.

“As a lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I owe myself, family, colleagues and members of the public a duty to be responsible,” Doguwa said.

He further explained that he was not there to attend the meeting but was only there to see the Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, on some issues and leave.

“What really happened was that I jokingly said that since this is APC stakeholders meeting, the National Assembly caucus should have a representation too.

“In the process, Garo got up and insulted me. While Garo was trying to attack me, there was a cup of tea on the table.

“The tea cup fell on the ground and in the process of Garo moving towards me, he slipped and fell on the floor and got injured.

“I didn’t inflict any injury on him as reported by the alleged media reports. As the Sarduana of Rano Emirate, I could not have fought in my traditional attire,” Doguwa said.

He reiterated his unflinching support for APC presidential candidate, Sen. Bola Tinubu and Dr Nasiru Gawuna and pledged to continue to contribute to the growth of the APC in Kano and Nigeria.

The lawmaker, however, called on the state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, to quickly intervene and take control of challenges facing APC in the state before the forthcoming 2023 general election.

All efforts made to get a reaction from Garo at the time of filing this report proved abortive as calls made to his mobile number were not picked.
