Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has embarked on a four-day official visit to Italy in continuation of efforts aimed at sourcing support for the President Muhammadu Buhari government’s change agenda, especially as it relates to professionalization of the Police.

A statement by ACP Olabisi Kolawole, Force Public Relations Officer , said that the visit, which commenced on Tuesday January 26, 2016 is at the invitation of the Italian Government and was initiated to demonstrate the Italian Government’s willingness to support the Federal Government of Nigeria towards enhancing the capacity of the Nigeria Police, particularly, in the area of intelligence, special operations and investigations.
The visit will, according to the statement, provide a unique opportunity for the IGP to highlight the efforts of the Federal Government towards repositioning the Force and situating their operations within the dictates of rule of law and best international policing practices, especially now that the Force is preparing to restore civil authority in the areas liberated from insurgents in the North-East region of Nigeria. Areas of bilateral cooperation and interventions will also be extensively explored.

He will also visit and interact with the leadership of the Intelligence Analysis facility of the Italian Police and engage with the Executives of Berretta Firearms Manufacturing Company all in an effort to build international partnership and support for the enhancement of the intelligence, operations and investigation capacity of the Nigeria Police as well as explore opportunities for specialised trainings for the Force.
He is expected to conclude the visit on January 30, 2016.

Meanwhile, the IGP has expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the former IGP, Chief. Sunday A. Adewusi .

IGP Arase, while describing the late Chief Sunday Adewusi as a Nigerian hero who served his nation proudly, as a Police officer, even at retirement, said he was a transformational leader whose tenure as Inspector-General of Police between1981-1983 remains impactful, across several generations of Police officers. The IGP noted that throughout his life, he remained a strong member of the Police family; attending all Police official events, even up to the last Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary celebration.

Late Chief Sunday Adewusi, according to the IGP, was a beacon of hope to the Nigeria Police Force, just as he remained an advocate of policing throughout his life. While the entire members of the Nigeria Police family mourn the loss of a great police icon, the IGP noted that the same family also celebrates his remarkable life and hoped that it serves as an example to all and sundry across the nation, to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.
Meanwhile, the IGP has set up a Committee to liaise with the family to give him a befitting burial that he deserves.
