IGP removes embattled Enugu police commissioner; as Ojukwu takes over

Following his indictment by the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for culpability in the attack on a community in Enugu State by Fulani herdsmen which led to the death of scores of peoples, along with with destruction of several property, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Enugu State Police Commissioner, Nwodibo Ekechukwu to the Eastern Port Police Command.
IG Arase also announced the immediate appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, as the new commissioner of Police for the state.
Until his appointment, the one-time police commissioner in Kogi State, CP Ojukwu was the Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port Command.
CP Ojukwu had also served as the Force Public Relations officer of the Nigerian Police and the officer in charge criminal investigations at Zone 7 Police headquarters, Abuja in the past.
The State Governor, Ugwuanyi, it would be recalled had revealed that a day before the attack by the suspected Fulani herdsmen, he had mobilized the police chief and informed him on the impending attack with Ekechukwu allegedly assuring the governor of his readiness to prevent the attack.
