The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has endorsed the process that produced a new state executive committee of the Enugu state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the exercise as transparent and worthy of emulation.
The INEC administrative secretary in the state, Dr. Okwu Aniemene, who represented the commission during the state congress of the party held at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, also commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the leaders of the party in the state for shepherding the party in such an orderly manner as to produce a new set of executives without rancor.
Both Governor Ugwuanyi and the deputy president of the senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, were present during the congress which produced Mr. Augustine Nnamani as the new state chairman of PDP.
The visibly elated governor commended the leaders of the party and the party faithful for making the exercise completely rancor-free, saying the credit goes to the spirit of give and take patriotically exhibited by the leaders and members of the party in the state from the ward and local government congresses to the state congress.
Similarly, Ekweremadu praised the leadership shown by the governor in ensuring that the party staved off crisis all through the period of the congresses, saying that for the first time in the past years, Enugu PDP would be operating under one united fold without factional cleavages.
Delegates drawn from the seventeen local government areas in the state participated in the exercise which saw the new chairman affirming the determination of the new executive to work hard to reposition the party for the arduous task of opposition partisan politics at the national level.
In their various goodwill messages some stakeholders of the party expressed their support for the state governor and commended the excellent relationship that has been existing between members of the PDP family. They all urged the new executive to emulate the exemplary leadership qualities of Gov Ugwuanyi.
National Assembly members from Enugu state and scores of PDP chieftains in the state took part in the congress.
