The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of its preparedness for the 2027 general election, even as the amended Electoral Act awaits passage in the National Assembly.
The Commission said it has completed preparations for the election timetable and activity schedule.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). He noted that the Commission has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly, but acknowledged that some items on the timetable may be affected depending on when the new Electoral Act is approved.
“For now, we have no option but to proceed under the existing law,” Amupitan said, stressing that INEC remains committed to ensuring a smooth electoral process.
The Commission’s statement reflects its determination to remain on course with election planning, despite the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework.
