An unemployed man, Ganiyu Ojuoke, who allegedly stole a motorcycle at gunpoint, was on Friday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of illegal weapons.
The chief magistrate, Mrs Bolanle Osunsanmi, while refusing the bail applications of the accused, said he should remain behind bars in Kirikiri Prisons until the next date of adjournment.
The chief magistrate did not take the plea of the accused while she adjourned the case until April 19 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi had told the court that the offences were committed on Nov. 5, 2017 at about 12.55 a.m. at Agege, Lagos.
Emuerhi said the accused, who is of no fixed address, whilst armed with a locally-made-short-double barrel gun, stole one Bajaj motorcycle valued at N240, 000.
“The accused, who was unlawfully armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons, stole the motorcycle.
“Ojuoke was apprehended by men of the Nigerian Police during a stop-and-search, but he could not give a satisfactory explanation on the ownership of the motorcycle and the unlawful possession of the gun,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 245, 297 and 330 of Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) and the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
