An All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship aspirant in Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Muazu has commended the resilience of workers in the State despite harsh and deceptive economic policies of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in the State.
Alhaji Habu stated in a goodwill message to the workers, made available to newsmen in Gombe that no country or State can develop without the contributions of workers.
According to him, “It is impossible for any State or country to attain meaningful development without the active contributions of the workers. I personally consider them critical in the actualization of any set goals”.
He however appealed to the workers not to relent in discharging their responsibilities diligently stressing that no matter how difficult times are, posterity will forever reward genuine and sincere workers.
He promised a conducive working environment with better packages to all public and private sector workers in the State if elected Governor in 2019.
Marking the Workers Day at the Pantami Township Stadium, the Gombe State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), expressed their grievances to the State Government over welfare of civil servants and pensioners.
Top most among their grievances and demands are payment of balance of ten percent of health workers at the Local Governments, 50 percent balance of leave allowance for Local Government employees and primary school teachers, implementation of promotion of Local Government employees and primary school teachers as well as more releases to settle gratuities of retirees.
The workers also called on the Dankwambo Government to establish a functional printing and publishing company for the State and functional firefighting equipment and a befitting office accommodation for the fire service.
In his address at the occasion, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Charles Iliya, assured the workers of Government’s readiness to review upward the salaries of workers whenever the issue on the clamour for the N66,500.00 minimum wage is finalized.
