Juneteenth: Workshop on ‘Present Day Disparities’ holds in Hillside, New Jersey, USA

As part of the celebration of Juneteenth, a day set apart for the commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, an Education Workshop on “Slavery’s Connectivity to Current Socio-Economic Disparities in New Jersey,” will take place today (Wednesday), June 19, 2024 at 6:00 pm.

The Workshop Series, being put together by the Township of Hillside, New Jersey, the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc and the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, started with a virtual lecture on the “Power of Slavery” on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Moderated by the Mayor of Hillside, Dahlia Vertreese, the lecture was eloquently delivered by Dr. Denise Wallace, Ph. D, an Associate Professor of Africana Studies at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Today (Wednesday)’s presentations would be on “Present Day Disparities,” and would be by John Harmon, Founder & CEO, African American Chamber of Commerce, New Jersey, and Dr. Denise Anderson, Ph. D, a Public Health Consultant.

Today’s event will hold at the Hillside Community Center, 274 Hillside Ave.

Juneteenth is also called Jubilee Day; Emancipation Day; Freedom Day or Black Independence Day and is a federal holiday marked across the country by festivals, parties, parades, church services and other forms of public enlightenment programs such as the Workshop slated for the Hillside Community Center today.
