Kano Governor approves airlift of athletes to Asaba 2025 National Youth Games

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved that all athletes representing the state at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, will travel by air instead of by road.

The Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Fagge, made this known after a meeting with the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to Fagge, the decision is part of the governor’s commitment to safeguard young athletes, following the tragic accident in which 22 athletes from Kano lost their lives on their way back from the Gateway Games in Ogun State.

“The government is doing everything to make sure such a terrible incident never happens again,” Fagge said.

Kano will send a delegation of over 170 athletes to Asaba, where they will compete in 17 different sports. Fagge urged the athletes to remain disciplined, work hard, and make the state proud.

“You are ambassadors of Kano State. Compete with pride and represent the people and government well,” he advised.

To support local movement in Asaba, the government has also arranged two Coaster buses with two drivers each to transport the athletes from the airport and handle their travel needs during the competition.
